RESEARCH:

Audience immersion is a rich, under-researched concept, which draws inspiration from and works across distinct disciplines of art, performance, engineering, science, and technology. Immersion in a dome relies upon diverse and emerging technologies to create the performance environment and to promote active bodily engagement. According to contemporary performance scholar Adrian Heathfield, performance has shifted aesthetically from “the optic to the haptic, from the distant to the immersive, from the static relation to the interactive” (Going Live). Work created for Wonder Dome explores the underlying ideologies at the heart of this shift.
